Mechanism of EGF induced mucins secretion. EGF treatment can increase the expression of interleukin-13 and keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) that resulted in an increased Muc2 expression [15]. EGF through inducing DUOX2 expression and ROS production to activate ERK1/2-PKC pathways thus inducing Muc5AC and Muc3 expression [42].
