Regular Voluntary Exercise Potentiates Interleukin-1β and Interleukin-18 Secretion by Increasing Caspase-1 Expression in Murine Macrophages

Figure 4

Effects of regular voluntary exercise (VE) on the mRNA levels of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines in macrophages stimulated with or without lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Peritoneal-exudate macrophages isolated from the sedentary control (SC) and VE mice were cultured for 6 h in the presence or absence of 100 ng/mL LPS. The mRNA levels of interleukin- (IL-) 1β (a), IL-18 (b), tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-) α (c), and IL-10 (d) were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The mRNA levels are presented as ratios relative to the levels of 18S rRNA. Mean ± standard error of the mean (SEM; ) values are provided. ; (by one-way analysis of variance [ANOVA] and the Bonferroni test).
