Simvastatin Posttreatment Controls Inflammation and Improves Bacterial Clearance in Experimental Sepsis

Figure 9

Effect of simvastatin in bacterial elimination by peritoneal macrophages stimulated with E. coli and on mortality of animals submitted to CLP. Peritoneal macrophages were pretreated with simvastatin (5 μM, 10 μM, 20 μM), and after 1 hour, they were stimulated with E. coli (a). After 30 minutes, the culture supernatants were plated for CFU counting. SW mice were treated with simvastatin (1 mg/kg and 2 mg/kg) 6 hours after surgery. The mortality was observed for 7 days after sepsis induction (b). Data represented as of at least 6 animals. , control vs. CLP + vehicle, #, CLP + vehicle vs. CLP + simvastatin.
