Artificial Intelligence for Remote and Mobile Multimedia

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

In today’s digital world, multimedia includes animation, graphics, video, audio, and text for real-world applications. Multimedia has become ubiquitous and plays a role in almost all social and economic activities due to advances in electronic and computer-based communication networks. Therefore, it is important to improve the security of multimedia services to enable multimedia analysis, retrieval, and management. This has necessitated the development of advanced processing systems. For multimedia security, artificial intelligence requires efficient modeling techniques to process and filter data, given that artificial intelligence (AI) is required to make data-driven decisions in multimedia devices.

AI endows mobile multimedia with AI vision, natural language generation, machine learning, and natural language processing to create automated and semi-automated mobile applications. AI in multimedia computing is a powerful tool for producing high-level abstractions of complex multimedia data used in various tasks such as multimodal data analysis, speech-to-text, media retrieval, face detection, and recognition. AI in mobile multimedia improves device capability with open-source codes and parallel processing architectures. AI reduces the need to send large amounts of data to a remote location by enabling processor-intensive AI computations, which gives the benefit of greater privacy and data security. AI technologies with facial recognition software and predictive engines allow phone unlocking through users looking at their device. Other useful tools include mobile applications which collect data and provide weather and traffic updates. Furthermore, AI-enabled augmented reality improves digital image quality.

Additionally, AI can select optimal lighting conditions and guide voice assistance in smartphone search engines. Moreover, the abundant social networks and remote devices with innovative AI-based multimedia technologies have the potential to solve complex problems. AI provides intelligent solutions for social networks and learning multimedia database management. The power of AI in multimedia lies in its multisensory nature that allows for applications to control the flow of information. AI improves computing systems and applications on mobile platforms.

This Special Issue invites researchers to submit original research and review papers focusing on multimedia that have an impact on communication environments.
