Description

Metaverse, which is expected to become a massive communal cyberspace, enables users to walk around, to wander from place to place, and to interact with various virtual objects. Due to these features, metaverse technology has been being widely used in many fields. Recently, COVID-19 is pushing students to the metaverse, which creates an immersive learning experience. One of the advantages of the metaverse-based education/training is to allow learners to study knowledge and skills by themselves. We called this learning method "learner-centered education”. Another advantage is that it provides a collaborative learning experience to learners. Therefore, we can say that metaverse education platform has great potential for active and autonomous learners to collaborate with each other in the learning process.

This Special Issue is soliciting high-quality research papers addressing research achievements, practices, theoretical framework, and challenges for metaverse education platform with mobile devices. Original research articles are welcomed in all aspects including innovative technical developments, theoretical and experimental studies, and practical applications, review articles of the current state of the art, prototype development and evaluation.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Learner-centered interaction for collaborative learning in metaverse platforms
  • Collaborative immersive virtual environments for learner-centered education
  • Haptic technologies for metaverse platforms
  • Learner-centered interactive educational environment for metaverse platforms with mobile devices
  • Immersive training system in mobile metaverse platforms
  • Wireless/mobile education platforms along with virtual reality technology
  • Usability test and evaluation of the proposed educational metaverse platform
  • Multimodal interface for immersive education and training in mobile metaverse platforms
  • Instructional design for training in metaverse platform for mobile devices
  • UI/UX design for collaborative learner-centered immersive education and training in metaverse platform with mobile devices
  • Effectiveness (cognitive, affective, behavioral) of metaverse education platform with mobile devices
