Intelligent Localization and Communication for Mobile Communication Systems

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

The development of mobile communication systems is making a dramatic impact in industry settings, whereas the industrial Internet of things is a new ecosystem that combines intelligent and autonomous machines, advanced predictive analytics, and machine-human collaboration to improve productivity, efficiency, and reliability. In these systems, localization has played an increasingly important role in the system design and optimization, such as efficient scheduling based on location information of mobile robots in smart factories or warehousing, indoor monitoring, and control for energy saving in industrial buildings, location-based services in smart spaces, as well as for detecting and tracking intruder locations in security safeguards. To support the scenarios mentioned above, intelligent localization and communication techniques have been proposed, to support the massive data communication and computing in the system.

Several critical challenges still remain unsolved for intelligent localization and communication in mobile information systems. The first challenge is the complicated mechanism between localization and communication, where an intelligent approach should be developed to analyze the system's overall performance. The second challenge is the impact of localization on communication techniques, where the conventional communication techniques such as precoding and reception should be re-designed in an intelligent approach. The third challenge is the application of localization and communication for computing-intensive services in mobile information systems, where edge intelligence and computing should be devised with the help of localization.

The aim of this Special Issue is to collate original research articles, as well as review articles, investigating the significance of intelligent localization and communication to preserve mobile information systems. In this Special Issue, we hope to discover the promises of edge intelligence using intelligent localization in mobile information systems. In addition, we also wish to come across innovative solutions with useful insights, and results. Submissions discussing informative, and effective techniques that can support efficient edge intelligence with localization are highly encouraged.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Intelligent localization schemes
  • Localization and communication
