Control of Distributed Parameter Systems

Call for Papers

Feedback control, observation, and stabilization are key concepts in Systems Theory. Lumped parameter systems are by now well understood but there is still a long way to a complete understanding of distributed parameter systems.

In the last decade, some new methods for feedback controller and observer design have been introduced, such as backstepping, anti-delay controllers, extended state observer and disturbance observer, and optimal estimation and Kalman filtering. And these methods have been successfully applied in many fields, ranging from science and engineering to economics and social sciences.

This special issue focuses on the design of feedback control, state estimation, and stabilization for distributed parameter systems and corresponding mathematical problems and aims at creating a forum of discussion on recent advances in this area and its applications in engineering.

This special issue will collect high-quality articles containing original research results and review articles of exceptional merit. The articles collected will be an exceptional expression of the diversity of new developments in the area, including its applications.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Design of feedback controller for deterministic systems
  • Design of feedback controller for stochastic systems
  • Stabilization of systems with input delay
  • State estimation for systems with state delay
  • Disturbance observers and stabilization for systems with unknown input
  • Optimal control for delay systems
  • Pointwise control of distributed parameter systems
  • Boundary control of distributed parameter systems
  • Optimal control for distributed parameter systems
  • Differential flatness properties and flatness-based control in distributed parameter systems
  • Optimal estimation and Kalman filtering for distributed parameter systems
  • Joint estimation and control problems in distributed parameter systems
  • Applications to parabolic, hyperbolic, and elliptic PDE systems
  • Applications to nonlinear PDE systems
