GABA through the Ages: Regulation of Cortical Function and Plasticity by Inhibitory Interneurons

GABAergic interneurons are born in the basal telencephalon. Coronal cryosection of an E14 GAD65 EGFP mouse embryo. The MGE and the POA give rise to tangentially migrating cortical interneurons (green). GABAergic LGE-derived neurons migrate to the olfactory bulb, the striatum, and the lateral cortex.
