The neck region is a unique region recently highlighted by Matsuoka et al. [53]. The striated muscle in the neck is formed from somites, while the connective tissue and osseous attachment are derived from neural crest cells. Thus, the neck has components of both head and trunk and can be viewed as a transition between the two.
