DM: diabetes mellitus, TIA: transient ischaemic attack, and MI: myocardial infarction. An independent sample -test compared *age across the two groups, and there was a significant difference. A chi-square test for independence (with Yates continuity correction) found a significant difference in rates of hypertension between the two groups. values < 0.05 indicate significance. If counts in cells were less than five, statistical analysis was not conducted.
