Advanced Nursing Practice for Older People
Description
We plan to publish a special issue dedicated to care of older people in nursing practice, with special focus on advanced nursing practice regarding older people's long-term conditions and older people's and their family members' autonomy and voice in decision making of nursing practice.
Older people are considered one particular group of the population which needs and uses many health services of a various nature and the use of services is increasing with age. On the other side, the health services provided may not be responsive to the older population's needs because of several barriers (e.g., geographical, financial, or information) or lack of continuity of care, which leads to the reduced access and quality of care and worsening of quality of life among the older patients. To be responsive to the needs of older people, the continuity and quality of care should be improved by more effective management of care and improving the communication as well as interaction between patients, their family members, care providers, and politicians. In this process, the nurses have a remarkable role, which, however, sometimes may not to be noted enough.
