Immunostaining was carried out using antibodies for p47^phox (shown in green) together with NeuN (top), OX42 (middle), and GFAP (bottom). Microglia, astrocyte, and neuronal markers are shown in red. In SNpc, p47^phox-positive cells are basically neurons and astrocytes; however, no p47^phox-positive cells are OX42-positive cells, thus excluding their microglial origin.
