Allicin Alleviates Dextran Sodium Sulfate- (DSS-) Induced Ulcerative Colitis in BALB/c Mice

Allicin reduced the expression/activation of STAT3 and its downstream target Bcl-xl. (a) The DSS-induced animals showed increased expressions of p-STAT and Bcl-xl (lane 2) compared with the control mice (lane 1). Allicin treatment (lane 3) decreased the expression of p-STAT and Bcl-xl compared with the DSS-induced mice. The total STAT3 was unaltered in all of the experimental mice. (b) Quantification of the respective blots using the ImageJ software. (c) Immunofluorescence analysis of p-STAT. The values are expressed as the means ± S.D.
