A value 2.5-fold the median NEIL3 expression value in noncancerous tissue samples of each organ was used as the cut-off value to dichotomize the cancer cases. In the LUSC cases, a value 10-fold the median NEIL3 expression value in noncancerous lung tissue samples was used. Higher numbers of median somatic mutation per sample are shown in bold face. A Mann-Whitney U test was used to perform the statistical analysis. If the P value was less than 0.05, indicating a significant change, a significant “increase” or “decrease” in the number of somatic mutations per sample was shown. If significant (less than 0.05), the value was shown in bold face.
