125I seeds radiation induced mitophagy in HCT116 cells. (a) HCT116 cells were exposed to 125I seeds radiation (2 Gy); the representative transmission electron microscopic ultrastructures are shown. The arrows indicate an autophagic vacuole containing mitochondria (scale bars 200 nm and 500 nm). (b) HCT116 cells were exposed to 125I seeds radiation alone or in combination with CQ (40 mol) for 6 hours. Following fixation, the cells were immunostained with an anti-TIM23 antibody (red) and an anti-LC3 antibody (green) and visualized by confocal microscopy. The representative confocal microscopy images are shown. Small squares denoted the area zoomed in region of the images and white arrows denoted mitophagy punctuation induced by 125I seeds radiation.
