Neuronal Damage Induced by Perinatal Asphyxia Is Attenuated by Postinjury Glutaredoxin-2 Administration

Figure 5

Grx2 and Trx1 revert the delay in the appearance of eye neurodevelopment milestones present after neonatal hypoxia/ischemia. Pups were evaluated for the detection of variation in the appearance of different reflexes and motor skills. (a) Quantification of the eye opening in pups expressed as the day of the first appearance (both eyes presented completed separation of the eyelids). (b) Quantification of the eye twitching reflex in pups expressed as the day of the first appearance (day in which both eyelids twitch for the first time). Bars represent the mean + SEM of 10 rats per group. Kruskal-Wallis tests [eye opening: H = 25.35, d.f. = 5, ; eye twitching: H = 15.72, d.f. = 5, ], followed by post hoc Mann–Whitney tests were employed to analyze the data. , .
