Edaravone, a Synthetic Free Radical Scavenger, Enhances Alteplase-Mediated Thrombolysis

Figure 1

Effect of edaravone-alteplase combination therapy in a rat model of thromboembolic clot-induced cerebral ischemia. (a) The experimental groups included the vehicle-injected control group, alteplase group, and edaravone-alteplase combination group ( per group). Rats were killed 24 hours after establishment of cerebral ischemia. (b) Representative figures of 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride-stained brain sections of rats. Normal brain tissue stains deep red, and ischemic lesions are white (unstained). (c) Infarct volume in the control, alteplase, and edaravone-alteplase groups. (d) Neurological score in the control, alteplase, and edaravone-alteplase groups. The horizontal lines represent the mean values.
