Maggot Extracts Alleviate Inflammation and Oxidative Stress in Acute Experimental Colitis via the Activation of Nrf2

Figure 5

The maggot extracts exhibit anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities in DSS-induced colitis by activating Nrf2. Mice were treated as explained in Figure 2. (a–j) The expression of p-IκB, NFκB p65, IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, p22-phox, gp91-phox, HO-1, Nrf2, and Keap1 in colonic tissues was assessed with western blotting. Representative data are displayed (a) and the relative protein intensity of p-IκB, NFκB p65, IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, p22-phox, gp91-phox, HO-1, and Nrf2 was normalized to GAPDH (b–k). (l–o) Sections of colonic tissues were immunostained for revealing various molecules (red) as indicated. The slides were counterstained with DAPI (blue), and the images were captured using an inverted fluorescence microscope. Magnification: ×200. Data are expressed as the (b–k). , , and .
