4-Pyridinio-1,4-Dihydropyridines as Calcium Ion Transport Modulators: Antagonist, Agonist, and Dual Action

<div>Role of SERCA in compound 4-induced [Ca<sup>2+</sup>]<sub>i</sub> increase. Changes in [Ca<sup>2+</sup>]<sub>i</sub> were monitored after pretreatment with thapsigargin (TG), followed by addition of 100 <i>μ</i>M compound 4 in Ca<sup>2+</sup>-free medium. Typical [Ca<sup>2+</sup>]<sub>i</sub> response to compound 4 after pretreatment of cells with vehicle (black) or with 5 <i>μ</i>M thapsigargin (grey) for 15 min. Arrow indicates the time of compound 4 addition. Control is Fura-4 NW loaded cells without stimulator.
