Implications of NAD<sup>+</sup> Metabolism in the Aging Retina and Retinal Degeneration

<div>Inhibition of NAMPT activity affects mitochondrial biogenesis in human retinal pigment epithelial cells. Human retinal pigment epithelial cells were treated with 1 <i>μ</i>M FK866 for 72 hours, and change in mRNA expression of PGC1a and Nrf1 and density of healthy respiring mitochondria (MitoTracker Green positive) were determined using qPCR and FACS analysis, respectively.
