Hydrogen Gas Attenuates Hypoxic-Ischemic Brain Injury via Regulation of the MAPK/HO-1/PGC-1a Pathway in Neonatal Rats

Figure 10

The proposed mechanism by which H2 gas regulate the MAPK/Nrf2/HO-1 pathway. Step 1: H2 gas upregulates the expression of MAPKs (ERK1/2, P38 MAPK, and JNK). Step 2: HO-1 can be expressed by stimuli mainly via MAPK-dependent Nrf2 activation. Step 3: HO-1 inhibits oxidative stress and increases SIRT1 expression. Step 4: SIRT1 directly deacetylates PGC-1α. In summary, the functional outcome is decreased apoptosis and oxidative stress.
