Oxidative stress is emerging as a lead player in the pathophysiology of several diseases and aging in life forms including humans. The oxidative stress theory of aging emphasizes that a progressive and irreversible escalation of oxidative damage caused by the reactive oxygen species (ROS) exerts severe impact on the critical aspects of the biology of aging and contributes to impaired physiological function, increased incidence of disease, and shortening of life-span.

The purpose of the topic is to provide additional opportunities in order to identify avenues that impact both the life-span and age-related diseases in humans. Therefore, we invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing effort to understand the molecular pathology of oxidative stress underlying the biology of aging and age-related diseases and development of strategies to alleviate or treat these conditions.

We are particularly interested in the articles highlighting the novel insights into the role of oxidative stress in biological aging at the molecular, cellular, and organismal levels and age-associated pathologies, such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, and neurodegenerative diseases in cellular models, model organisms, and humans. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Role of oxidative stress in biological aging at molecular, cellular, and organismal levels
  • Recent advances in basic research on aging and longevity using gene-manipulated animals
  • Role of visceral adipose tissues in age-related diseases
  • Role of inflammatory cascades in age-related diseases
  • Effects of nutrients antioxidants, nutraceuticals, exercise, and calorie restriction on aging processes at the molecular levels in various disease models
  • Recent development in oxidative medicine in aging and age-related diseases in human subjects with a translational focus
  • Latest technologies for clinical evaluation and measuring of the outcomes for aging and age-related diseases
  • Role of endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria in aging and age-related diseases
