PD onset was defined as year of first symptom onset (resting tremor, bradykinesia, rigidity, asymmetry, postural reflex impairment, or unspecific/self-reported symptom) as reported in medical records; when dates were missing for all symptoms, PD onset was defined as year of first ever PD diagnosis recorded in the NHR. Age at PD diagnosis was based on the year of first ever PD diagnosis in the NHR; for controls, it was the age at PD diagnosis of their matched case.
