Nonmotor Symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease

Description

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is considered a multisystemic neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by a combination of motor and nonmotor symptoms (NMS). There is increasing recognition that the clinical spectrum of PD is more extensive, also including NMS. NMS of PD comprised a variety of cognitive, neuropsychiatric, sleep, autonomic, and sensory dysfunctions that would increase the mortality and morbidity of PD patients eventually.

We are interested in original research articles as well as review articles that explore aspects of NMS at various stages of PD and critical points with its special characteristics, including clinical phenotypes, treatment, biomarkers, and psychometrics to reflect the course of NMS.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Development and testing of novel and effective tools to NMS of PD
  • Risk or protective factors of nonmotor symptoms of PD
  • Elucidating the role of NMS to the natural course of PD
  • Identification of biomarkers to NMS of PD
  • Identifying and examining the therapeutic response of PD in relation to NMS
  • Correlation of biomarkers and clinical NMS in PD in relation to the stages of PD
  • Structure or functional imaging that could reflect NMS of PD
