Abstract

Magnetic microparticles with reactive surfaces can be used to rapidly remove soluble and insoluble materials from water with the aid of novel contacting systems. This paper reviews work on the development of a new process, which uses specially pretreated finely divided particles of magnetite to remove colloidal material from a raw water. This process has now reached the commercial stage, with the design, construction and operation of a 35 M1/day demonstration plant.
