Specialized Fungal Parasites and Opportunistic Fungi in Gardens of Attine Ants

Laboratory colonies of Atta sexdens rubropilosa (Corumbataí, Brazil). Colonies were treated with baits without insecticide, control (a) and formulated baits containing the insecticide Hydramethylnon (b). Escovopsis sp. (white mycelia) emerged two days after treatment from fungus gardens of the infected colony (b), which depicts the aggressive effect of such parasite on attine ant colonies.
