Human Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Differentially Inhibit Cytokine Production by Peripheral Blood Monocytes Subpopulations and Myeloid Dendritic Cells

Figure 4

MSC effect on cytokines and chemokines mRNA expression in monocytes and mDC. Semiquantitative analysis of IL-1, IL-6, CCL3, CCL5, CXCL9, and CXCL10 mRNA expression in classical and nonclassical monocytes and mDC, under the following culture conditions: MNC stimulated with LPS + IFN (MNC + LPS + IFN), MNC cocultured with MSC and stimulated with LPS + IFN in the presence of MSC (MNC + MSC + LPS + IFN), MNC cocultured with MSC and stimulated with LPS + IFN immediately after depletion of MSC from the culture system (MNC + MSC + Depletion + LPS + IFN). Statistically significant differences were considered when for Friedman’s paired-sample test: MNC + LPS + IFN; MNC + MSC + Depletion + LPS + IFN. MSC, mesenchymal stromal cells; mDC, myeloid dendritic cells; IL, interleukin; MNC, mononuclear cells; LPS, lipopolysaccharide; IFN, interferon .
