Osteogenic differentiation of CB-MSCs and BM-MSCs at PD50. Cells were cultured for 28 days in the absence (a and b) or presence (c and d) of osteoinductive media and mineral deposition visualised by alizarin red staining. At PD50, osteogenic potency was observed to be higher for BM-MSCs, a result which is supported by (e) gene expression profiles for osteogenic markers by CB-MSCs and BM-MSCs. Values were normalised against the expression of β-actin and presented as the fold increase compared to expression value obtained for the respective cell population in nondifferentiating media, at day 0.
