Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy Facilitates Donor Lung Preservation by Reducing Oxidative Damage during Ischemia

Figure 5

Effect of HUCPVCs on oxidative stress parameters during the preservation of donor lungs. Lung biopsies were obtained at the end of the perfusion from the lungs receiving infusion of vehicle or HUCPVCs. Lung samples from untouched rats (basal) were used as controls. Protein lysates were prepared and assayed as described in Materials and Methods. (a) Protein carbonyl content. (b) SOD activity. One unit of SOD is defined as the amount of enzyme that inhibits the reduction of NBT by 50% under assay conditions. (c) CAT activity. One unit of CAT is defined as the amount of enzyme which breaks down 1 nmol of H2O2 per min under assay conditions. Data are expressed as . , #, and against the basal group derived from one-way ANOVA after multiple comparisons Tukey post hoc test.
