Optical transparency. (a) Optical micrograph of one- and two-atom-thick graphene crystals. The optical transmittance at 550 nm as a function of the lateral coordinate shows clear steps, the height of which is proportional to the hyperfine constant. In the inset, the linear variation of the transparency as function of number of layers is observed up to six layers.
