Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering Research in Ocular System

Call for Papers

The ophthalmological science and treatment have been advanced over the past two decades with the development of stem cell and tissue engineering research. It is feasible to apply stem cell-based therapies in the eye due to its immunological privilege, surgical accessibility, and ease of follow-up. Preclinical and clinical studies have shown promising prospects of stem cell-based therapies in the treatment of ocular injuries and diseases, such as corneal injury, glaucoma, and retinal degeneration.

This special issue aims to exhibit the recent advancements in the stem cell and tissue engineering research in ocular system. The scope includes novel stem cell populations, stem cell differentiation, tissue culture, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, and stem cell therapy. Original research articles, clinical studies, and review articles on stem cell and tissue engineering research related to ocular system are most welcome in this special issue.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Directed differentiation
  • Stem cell niche
  • Ocular microenvironment
  • Stem cells in development
  • Stem cell therapy in ocular system (cornea, retina, lens, etc.)
  • Endogenous stem cell homing
  • Bioengineered 3D culture model
  • Tissue engineering and biomaterials for ocular regeneration
  • Animal and clinical studies in ocular regeneration
