System Biology of Germline Stem/Progenitor Cell Research

Call for Papers

Germline stem/progenitor cells play a vital role in genome transmission to the future generation. Although germline stem cells (GSC), such as spermatogonial stem cells (SSC) culture system, were established about 20 years ago, still little is known about their development in vivo, GSC interaction with the microenvironment of their reside, physiological characteristics, or pathophysiological roles.

GSC maintenance, proliferation, and differentiation are extremely complex, with thousands of genes’ expression coordinated dynamically and precisely; these involved complex signal transduction and multiple gene regulation networks may give us useful cues to understand the regulation mechanism of cell fate control. Computational techniques-based system biology is very helpful to dissect this complexity.

We invite investigators to contribute high original research papers and reviews focusing on the germline stem/progenitor cell basic research and application study.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Germline stem/progenitor cell isolation, culture, characterization, and differentiation in vitro or in vivo
  • Germline stem/progenitor cell microenvironment and 3D culture
  • System biology of germline stem/progenitor cells
  • Aging of germline stem/progenitor cells
  • Physiology and pathophysiology of germline stem/progenitor cells

Authors can submit their manuscripts through the Manuscript Tracking System at

Papers are published upon acceptance, regardless of the Special Issue publication date.
