Translational Applications of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

Translational medicine is a rapidly growing field of medical research, embracing biomedicine, biology, tissue engineering, biochemistry, and all disciplines that may have an impact on medicine and its branches. Translational medicine is based on the ability to quickly transfer new knowledge from basic science to biomedical applications, or from the laboratory directly to the clinic, in order to generate advanced diagnostic and therapeutic applications, while offering new investigative tools.

Translational research currently aims to use the results obtained from basic research in clinical applications (from bench to bedside), however, there are many challenges to this approach, and there is an urgent need to improve and implement these clinical methods for efficient and accurate prevention, diagnosis, and therapy of prevalent human diseases.

The aim of this Special Issue is to attract both research and review papers on translational medicine, with a specific focus on the translational applications of bone tissue engineering. Preferably, submitted articles should report clinical trials and in vitro techniques that combine different disciplines, or highlight new processes and new methods that will improve the current state of the art in medical science. Tissue engineering with innovative scaffolds and stem cells, 3D organoids, and functionalised biomaterials are topics of particular interest. We will only accept articles that use or discuss bona fide stem cells.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Translational applications of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine
  • Functionalised biomaterials
  • Regenerative medicine and dentistry
  • Bone tissue engineering
  • 3D organoids
  • 3D bioprinting
  • Stem cells for tissue engineering
  • Potential uses of biomaterials in immunotherapy
