Seismic Performance, Damage Mechanism and Seismic Design for Tunnel Engineering

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

With the development of underground space, underground mining, transportation, nuclear power, water conservancy, and other rock tunnel projects are advancing. However, due to the geological structure and space constraints, some projects need to be built in the seismic zone, which is threatened by earthquakes. Disasters, such as lining cracking, seepage, dislocation, uplift, and even tunnel collapse will occur during a large earthquake. Earthquake disasters have become one of the main factors limiting the development of underground tunnel engineering.

Although there have been a lot of studies assessing how we can prevent tunnel seismic disasters, several post-earthquake damage investigations show that there is a need for further research, especially research in complex geological conditions. Research considering the combination of studying seismic performance, damage mechanism, and aseismic design for tunnel engineering with seismic wave characteristics, geological conditions, and tunnel structures is promising and will help reduce seismic disasters.

The aim of the Special Issue is to gather original research and review articles discussing tunnel seismic performance, damage mechanism, and aseismic design. Submissions should include original theories, experiments, numerical simulations, or case studies that help to understand advances in this research field.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Rapid identification technology assessing tunnel earthquake disasters
  • Case studies of tunnel earthquake disasters
  • Influence factors and weight coefficient of tunnel earthquake disasters
  • New theoretical, numerical, and experimental methods for assessing tunnel dynamic responses
  • Interaction mechanisms between underground tunnel structures and seismic waves
  • Propagation and attenuation characteristics of seismic waves in complex rock mass
  • Instability mechanism and safety evaluation of tunnel in poor geological conditions
  • Aseismic and anti-shear designs in tunnels with complex geological conditions
