Changes of the grain boundary character distribution and texture during normal grain
growth have been investigated using the SAC-SEM based method and a 4 circle X-ray
texture goniometer on A1 strips with columnar structure. The microstructure of the strips
consists of regions with oriented (clusters) and randomly oriented grains. All changes of
microstructure are outside the clusters during normal grain growth and consequently no
texture change was observed.

Grain and Grain Boundary Structure Evolution Without Texture
Changes During Normal Grain Growth in 2-D Al Strips

It was shown that in ultrafine-grained nanostructured Cu processed by severe plastic
deformation and subjected to cold rolling and annealing, the level and character of Young&#x27;s
modulus anisotropy is significantly different from values corresponding to cold rolled and
annealed coarse-grained Cu. The crystallographic texture formation processes are investigated
in these states in parallel. The comparative study of the elastic behaviour and
crystallographic texture lets us draw conclusions concerning the leading role of not only
developing crystallographic texture but a specific defect structure of grain boundaries as
well in the formation of unusual elastic properties of ultrafine-grained materials processed
by severe plastic deformation.

Texture and Young&#x27;s Modulus Anisotropy in Nanostructured Copper

The dilatometric studies of Ti-50.5 at.&#x25; Ni alloy have shown that the thermal expansion
coefficient (TEC) of B19&#x27;-martensite varies considerably for the solution-treated and
tensile-strained samples. In the undeformed state the TEC has the positive value
&#x3B1;=9.7.10-6 K-1. After tensile straining the TEC decreases sharply and takes on a
negative value (down to &#x2013; 10.8.10-6 K-1). The reasons for the variation of the TEC of the
B19&#x27;-phase of the solution-treated and deformed samples are discussed. The tensile
straining was found to create in the samples an extremely sharp texture of the phase
transformation, with the texture axis parallel to the strain direction. The TEC of monoclinic
B1939;-lattice is different in various crystallographic directions and assumes a negative
value in the [0 01]B19&#x27; direction.

Texture and Thermal Expansion Anomalies of B19&#x27;-Martensite
in Tensile Deformed TiNi Shape Memory Alloy

Starting powder of Bi(Pb)&#x2013;Sr&#x2013;Ca&#x2013;Cu&#x2013;O superconductor consisting mainly of 2223-
phase was separated into fractions by precipitation in toluene. The high-oriented stacking
of grains of the monocrystalline fractions with different dispersity has been obtained in
magnetic field of 2 T at room temperature. The size of the powder grains in the range of
2&#x2013;20 &#x3BC;m has no strong influence on the texture. The best result of grain alignment has
been obtained for the powder grains of 10 &#x3BC;m in size.

Influence of Powder Structure on Texture Formation in
Superconducting Bi(Pb)&#x2013;Sr&#x2013;Ca&#x2013;Cu&#x2013;O Ceramics in Magnetic Field

The problem of the analytic determination of microstresses in textured polycrystals with
cubic symmetry under general static loading has been solved. The solution is based on the
expansion of macroscopic and microscopic stress fields into hydrostatic and deviatoric
portions. This essentially simplifies the description of microstresses in polycrystals.

Calculation of Microstresses in Textured Polycrystals With Cubic
Crystal Symmetry

Goss texture development in silicon steels has been studied through EBSP measurements
and various computer simulations and calculations. The results of these studies suggest
the possible role of high energy grain boundaries (HEGB) in the abnormal growth of
Goss grains. The Goss orientation has a fraction of HEGBs that is higher than any other
commonly observed orientations in the primary recrystallized silicon steels. The HEGBs
have high GB diffusion coefficients which cause rapid coarsening of precipitates on these
HEGBs and release them earlier, at the time when other GBs are still pinned. A difference
in the mobility between the HEGBs and the other GBs favours the abnormal growth of
Goss grains. The Monte-Carlo methods that have been developed and used to validate
this assumption have generated abnormally growing Goss grains. The experimentally
observed grain boundary character distributions (GBCD) around the growing Goss
grains have been reproduced in simulation by assuming high mobility to HEGBs. Apart
from the high mobility differences between different GBs, the importance of the fraction
of GBs with high mobility around growing Goss grains is realized.

Goss Texture Development in Fe&#x2013;Si Steels

The influence of thermomagnetic treatments (TMT) on static hysteresis loops and magnetic
losses of Fe73.5CulNb3Si13.5B9 in amorphous and nanocrystalline states was
studied. It is established that domain structure destabilization of the nanocrystalline alloy
at TMT in a high frequency magnetic field results in maximum decrease of magnetic losses
and permeability increase, if a high frequency magnetic field is applied to a sample during
the alloy transition from the amorphous to the nanocrystalline state.

Influence of Induced Anisotropy on Magnetic Properties of the
Fe73.5Cu1Nb3Si13.5B9 Alloy in Amorphous and Nanocrystalline States

The determining factors of the outstanding magnetic properties of the so-called nanocrystalline
materials are described. The discussion is based on results performed on wires
and microwire materials with general composition FeSiB(CuNb) and obtained by different
rapid solidification techniques. The evolution of magnetic properties (i.e., coercivity,
magnetostriction) is correlated with the structural evolution associated to the corresponding
heating parameters, experimentally determined by X-ray diffraction or differential
scanning calorimetry. Finally, a discussion is introduced on the important role
played by the structural nature of a two-phase system into the above-mentioned magnetic
properties. A final analysis of some technological applications of devitrified magnetic wires
and microwires is presented.

Influence of Nanocrystalline Structure on the Magnetic Properties
of Wires and Microwires

The properties of films and coatings can be optimized for a variety of applications by
modifying their texture. Understanding how the texture in thin films is formed and how it
can be controlled during film growth process is one of the most important areas of texture
research. Several examples were selected to illustrate how the texture in films and coatings
is developed and to explain how various properties of films are affected by texture. In
particular, texture development during electrodeposition of Zn-based automobile coatings,
Ni and Ni-based layers for magnetic recording as well as Fe and Fe-based wearresistant
coatings, is presented. A new area of application of texture research to control the
high-temperature oxidation resistance of engineering materials is described. Using
experimental data for Ni and Ti, the factors affecting texture formation during growth of
ceramic oxides are discussed, with special attention paid to the role of substrate texture.
The correlation between the oxide texture, grain boundary structure and diffusion of
metal and oxygen ions at high temperatures, is considered.

Films and Coatings

The alloy Mn&#x2013;Al&#x2013;C (magnetic <mml:math id="E1" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>&#x03C4;</mml:mi></mml:math>-phase) has a face-centered tetragonal crystal lattice with
the superstructure L10 (Shangurov et al., 1990). The tetragonal crystal axes c (the directions
 <mml:math id="E2" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mrow><mml:mo>&#x2329;</mml:mo><mml:mrow><mml:mn>001</mml:mn></mml:mrow><mml:mo>&#x0232A;</mml:mo></mml:mrow></mml:mrow></mml:math> of easy magnetization) of the grain lattices of a polycrystal permanent magnet having
a form of a bush must be preferably oriented along the corresponding bush radius. Such
bushes with a pronounced radial texture are used, for example, as stators of micromotors.
In the present paper the forming of this radial texture (001) in bushes made of the alloy
Mn&#x2013;Al&#x2013;C is investigated theoretically. Texture inhomogeneity is taken into account by
solving the boundary value problem of plasticity.
