The glucose undergoes glycolysis and enters in the mitochondria as pyruvate to be used in the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Excess acetyl-CoA is transported from the mitochondria to the cytoplasm in the form of citrate. The cytosolic acetyl-CoA is the precursor for the synthesis of lipids in the lipid bodies.
