Evaluating Medicinal Plants for Anticancer Activity

Plant extract 5 inhibits tumor growth in vivo, in a mouse breast cancer model. C57BL/6JolaHsd mice were injected s.c. with 105 E0771 cells, in the lower back. Treatment started one day after tumor induction and consisted of daily i.p. injections of 150 μg (in 300 μL) extract 5, for 12 days. Control mice were injected with an equivalent volume of DMSO/PBS at the same final concentration as the injected plant extract 5. At the end of the experiment, mice were sacrificed; tumors were removed and weighed. Each column represents average weight of tumors removed from 10 mice ± SE (a).
