Expression of S100 calcium binding protein A9 in normal esophageal squamous epithelium and ESCC. (a) Expression of S100A9 in representative normal esophageal squamous epithelium where the expression of S100A9 (brown color) was limited to the differentiated prickle and functional layers, with no expression in the regenerative basal layer. Immunostaining pattern was cytoplasmic and nuclear. (b) Expression of S100A9 in ESCC tissue sections. S100A9 expression was undetectable in the majority of tumor cells and stroma. All the images were acquired at 200x and 400x magnification. Scale bars = 50 μm and 20 μm.
