Graphene, Nanocarbon, and Beyond

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Graphene is a one-atom-thick material that has been the focus of fundamental and applied solid-state physics research. Novel condensed-matter effects of graphene that arise from its unique 2D energy dispersion and its superior properties make it promising for a wide variety of applications. Graphene’s unique electrical, mechanical, and interfacial properties, adjustable surface chemistry, and sensitive response to surface doping have led to the development of photonics, plasmonics, and broadband optoelectronics. The wonderful optical properties of graphene afford multiple functions of signal emitting, transmitting, modulating, and detection to be realized in one material.

We invite authors to contribute original as well as review articles. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Synthesis and growth of graphene
  • Functionalization and characterization of graphene
  • Structural and electronic characterization of 1D-layered systems including carbon nanotubes, nanoribbons, sheets, and concentric tubules
  • Chemical modification of 2D-layered materials and derivatives
  • Applications of carbon nanomaterials in biological engineering, optical electronics, ultrafiltration, composite materials, photovoltaic cells, energy storage, and so forth
  • Recent progress in synthesis of large area 2D materials
  • Future developments and aspirations of graphene and related carbon nanomaterials

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at according to the following timetable:
