Initial regressive changes in a 4.3 mm follicular cyst. The continuous line of follicular cells (arrow) is broken in some sections, and separating of the individual cells into the follicular cavity is evident. The basal membrane is broken or has disappeared in this phase. Internal theca cells are fibrotic with pycnotic nuclei. The theca interna (TI) is only about 30 μm thin.
