Service-Oriented Management and Computing in Edge-Cloud IoT

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

The Internet of Things (IoT) has been pervasive in various application domains. With the rapid development of IoT and edge computing, the convergence of these two emerging computing paradigms, i.e., edge-cloud network and IoT, has attracted huge attention from academia and industry.

As a supplement of cloud computing, edge computing enhances the real-time performance of service completion by offloading services to edge servers that are closer to the terminal devices to finish execution, while reducing power consumption and computing load in the cloud. Edge-cloud computing models have shown techniques that move computational and analytics capabilities from centralized data centers where most services have been located to the edge. Network functions between the edge and the cloud can be dynamically provisioned and managed through service APIs. Service-oriented management and computing plays an important role in decision-making processes in our daily life, as well as by applications and services in networking systems, such as edge-cloud IoT. Microservice architectures are increasingly used to simplify engineering, deployment, and management of distributed services in not only cloud-based powerful machines but also in light-weight devices. In this setting, original and cutting-edge advances for service-oriented management and computing in edge-cloud IoT are urgently needed.

This Special Issue aims to attract recent novel advances in this field. Original research and review articles are welcome.
