In 2007, we converted our last subscription journal to open access and so started our journey as a fully open access publisher. Since then, our mission has been to drive greater openness in research, remove the barriers to access and strive to put the researcher at the heart of everything we do.
Along the way, we have achieved important milestones that set us on the right path to enable us to make a difference in scholarly publishing – acting as an advocate for open research and promoting open practices that will enable a shift in the scholarly communications culture towards greater openness, inclusivity and equity.
Ultimately, science works best when research is openly available to be read, used, re-used, cited and shared by anyone, anywhere in the world. Our journey has been one of thinking outside the box, doing things differently, taking risks and breaking down technology and publishing silos.
At the end of 2020, we reached another major milestone in our history as an open access publisher. Hindawi was acquired by Wiley, a publisher with a commitment to open access, that shares our mission and has for the past 200+ years been helping researchers, professionals, students, universities, and corporations to achieve their goals in an ever-changing world.
It is with great confidence that I say, together Hindawi and Wiley are ideally placed to serve the research community in boundless ways. The two companies greatly complement each other and by combining our strengths we will work towards accelerating scientific discovery, collaboration, and innovation in scholarly publishing even further.
Our joint mission is to continue on our path and remove the barriers researchers face in accessing, using and publishing research. This is how we intend to make a positive impact for future generations.
