nGRE motifs in the AQP5 promoter region. The ~7 kb region of the AQP5 promoter and 4.5 kb of the AQP5 gene were analyzed for nGRE motifs with 0, 1, or 2 nucleotides () as a spacer with and without mismatches. Sequence positions are calculated relative to the translation initiation site. For the motifs containing a mismatch, the mismatch was classified as tolerable (t) or intolerable (i) for glucocorticoid binding according to Surjit et al. [26]. Mismatches are indicated bold and underlined.
