Cognitive Remediation and Psychosocial Rehabilitation for Individuals with Severe Mental Illness
Description
This is an open solicitation for papers to be published in the Journal of Rehabilitation Research and Practice related to the theme of providing integrated or otherwise combined cognitive remediation (cognitive enhancement and cognitive rehabilitation) and psychosocial rehabilitation (psychiatric rehabilitation and psychosocial treatment) for people with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Open clinical trials evaluating the feasibility and exploring outcomes of new cognitive remediation and psychosocial rehabilitation programs
- Open clinical trials evaluating the feasibility and exploring outcomes of established programs applied in novel settings or with a new population
- Controlled evaluations of combined cognitive remediation and psychosocial rehabilitation programs
- Studies of mechanisms underlying the effects of combined programs
- Studies of changes in the association between cognitive and psychosocial outcomes over the course of treatment
- Studies comparing combined cognitive and psychosocial treatment programs across different populations, such as first episode psychosis, multi-episode clients, and treatment-refractory clients
- Studies of social-cognitive training and remediation
- Applications of combined cognitive remediation and psychiatric rehabilitation in community settings
- Reviews or theoretical papers addressing research on combined cognitive remediation and psychiatric rehabilitation approaches, or approaches to the integration or sequencing of treatment components
- Studies of biological or other relevant correlates of cognitive or psychosocial outcomes in clients receiving cognitive remediation and psychiatric rehabilitation
