Digital healthcare is a sub-area of healthcare, which is supported by internet technology. Digital healthcare or e-healthcare are used interchangeably in different research fields. It helps users to have access to clinical data. Moreover, the users can get the latest medical data sets. Digital healthcare also provides personalized healthcare services to the patient, doctor, and hospitals. Moreover, due to the rapid growth of wearable devices and smartphones, sensor-enabled technology with smart cloud storage is helping healthcare to become a more personalized healthcare system (PHS). Sensors can collect any type of health-related data. This helps patients with different chronic diseases to connect with a doctor under continuous observation.
Due to mobile digital health evolution, there are tremendous opportunities and challenges. Digital healthcare needs to integrate recent technologies using sensors. Therefore, it provides innovative solutions for healthcare. Smart sensors play a crucial role in collecting health-related parameters from patients, using wearable devices and other means. It can monitor the progression of pathologies, and assess the efficacy of administered therapies. Digital healthcare can provide rapid, low-cost, and non-invasive diagnoses. There are many studies where sensors are used during robotics surgery. Sensor research also includes monitoring online relevant or vital signals during medical procedures. Sensor of Medical Things (SoMT) is an integrated solution composed of connected sensors, wearable medical devices, and clinical systems capable of improving the quality of medical treatment with reduced cost and timely delivery of response. These emerging technologies are bringing many innovative solutions for mobile digital health. There are many more possibilities for future research. Artificial intelligence (AI) makes these solutions more viable and efficient. There are many advantages of using sensors in digital healthcare from a patient, doctor, and hospital perspective. For example, cost reduction, improved treatment, faster disease diagnosis, proactive treatment, drug and equipment management, and error reduction.
The aim of this Special Issue is to bring together original research and review articles discussing how to improve digital healthcare using a sensor-based environment. Submissions can also discuss AI for better informed healthcare decisions.
