These antibodies recognize surface-hsp60 onstressed or tumor cells, and consequently, they can lead to either damage and persistence of infection or cell lysis producing a regression of certaintypes of cancer. Immunocomplexes (Ct-hsp60 and anti-Ct-hsp60) can cause disease if they form deposits in the renal glomerulus.
