Antiproliferative, Ultrastructural, and Physiological Effects of Amiodarone on Promastigote and Amastigote Forms of Leishmania amazonensis

Figure 3

Differential interference contrast microscopy (DIC) and fluorescence microscopy with Nile Red of Leishmania amazonensis promastigotes untreated (a-b) and treated with different concentrations of AMIO (6, 10 and 15 μM) for 48 h (c–h, resp.). In the treated promastigotes, images suggest an accumulation of lipid-storage bodies in the cytoplasm, which is concentration dependent. In (g), parasites treated with 15 μM AMIO are completely modified. The conditions used to harvest the parasites, to incubate with Nile Red and to observe under the microscopy using the correct filters sets are described in Materials and Methods.
