Anticonvulsant Drugs, Brain Glutamate Dehydrogenase Activity and Oxygen Consumption

Figure 2

Effect in vitro of some anticonvulsant drugs on reductive amination of α-ketoglutarate catalaized by mouse brain glutamate dehydrogenase. Glutamate dehydrogenase activity (GDH) was determined in mouse brain homogenates (1 : 5 w : v on phosphates 0.05 M pH = 7.6 buffer) with different concentrations of pyridoxal phosphate (PPAL), hydroxylamine (OHAMINE), and aminooxyacetic acid (AAOA) with α-ketoglutarate as substrate, using a spectrophotometric method (see Section 2). Results are means ± SEM ( 𝑛 > 4 ). ANOVA test was applied and different characters were used to indicate statistically different groups as compared with the control ( 𝑃 > 0 . 0 1 , Tuckey’s test).
