aThe minimum inhibitory concentration is the lowest concentration of sugar that completely inhibited HA with rat erythrocytes for haemolymph or purified lectin diluted to contain 5 rat erythrocyte-HA units in 25 mL. bPurified lectin was obtained by affinity chromatography on REM-Sepharose, with sucrose-urea as eluant. The lectin was diluted 1 : 100 to give 5 HA units for inhibition tests. The A280 of the undiluted lectin preparation was 0.2. |
