Extrahepatic 25-Hydroxylation of Vitamin D3 in an Engineered Osteoblast Precursor Cell Line Exploring the Influence on Cellular Proliferation and Matrix Maturation during Bone Development

Alkaline phosphatase activity (ALP) of osteoblast precursor OPC1 and MC3T3-E1 after 10 days in culture after being treated with or without vitamin D3 (BM− control). After 10 days there was not a significant effect on ALP activity between treatment with either 1 μM or 10 μM vitamin D3; however, there was an overall statistically significant increase in ALP activity between vitamin D3 treated cultures and controls.
